Obituary: Alfred H. Thayer, Age 86

Services for the Boston-born WWII Veteran are today, Saturday, Dec. 22

Alfred H. Thayer

Age 86, of Shelton passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at the Hewitt Memorial Hospital in Shelton. He was the devoted husband of the late Rose Marie (Freddino) Thayer.

Alfred was born on October 17, 1926 in Boston, MA son of the late Mary (Wolkivich) Thayer Morrison and was a long time resident of Shelton.
He was a proud US Navy veteran of World War II. Alfred was a foreman at Sikorsky Aircraft for over 25 years before retiring and was a member of the Anchor Club at Sikorsky. He also worked for AVCO Lycoming in Stratford and was a volunteer for the Huntington Ambulance. Alfred was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus in Bridgeport. He enjoyed volunteering for Boy Scout Troop #26 at St. Lawrence Church and was an avid reader.

He was the loving father of Alfred C. Thayer and his fiance, Laurie Mihalcik, Robert L. Thayer and Rosemarie Soucy and her husband, Arthur. He also leaves five cherished grandchildren, Bradley, Gregory and Patrick Thayer, Kristine Re and her husband, Thomas and Jason Soucy and his wife, Cynthia, three great-grandchildren, Logan and Jenna Rose Re and Charlotte Soucy.

Friends may call on Saturday from 8:30 to 10am at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Rd., Shelton, CT. On Saturday, his funeral will leave the funeral home at 10am for a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Margaret Mary Church at 10:30am. Burial with full military honors will follow in Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hewitt Memorial Hospital, 45 Maltby St., Shelton, CT 06484.
