Francis “Frank” Skoronski, 81, of Shelton, beloved husband of 58 years to Helene (Patrol) Skoronski, entered into eternal rest at home on November 9, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. Frank was born in Ansonia on August 7, 1932 to the late Francis and Sophie Skowronski of Derby. A longtime Shelton resident, he is survived by his nine children, Elaine Skoronski Esq., Lynn Dell, Ann (Brian) Turner, Ellen Skoronski, Francis (Diane) Skoronski, Matthew (Susan) Skoronski, Judy (John) Higson, Michael (Alicia) Skoronski, Amy (Kevin) Greene, and nineteen grandchildren and one great grandchild. He is also survived by his brothers Robert (Ruth Ann) Skoronski, Eugene A. Skowronski Esq., Theodore (Kandi) Skowronski Esq., sister Judith (Samuel) LaMonico, sister-in-law Alice Dunne, his aunt Alma Roginel, and many other relatives.

Frank graduated from Indiana University. He received a Masters Degree from Southern Connecticut State University and a Sixth Year Certificate in Education Administration from the University of Bridgeport. Upon graduation he received a commission as a Second Lieutenant in the Army ROTC program and attained the rank of captain in the Army Reserves.

Frank began his 37-year career in education as a teacher in Shelton and was quickly named principal of Sunnyside and later Booth Hill Elementary Schools. A dedicated and passionate educator, he took great joy in his work and in his students’ accomplishments. He had a deep and unwavering commitment to his teachers, staff, and students. Frank was involved with many community organizations including the United Way, Derby/Shelton Rotary Club, and the Boys & Girls Club of LNV. He was especially proud of his lifelong involvement with Boy Scouts, Troop 3. In addition, Frank was an accomplished athlete who played football for Derby High School, Admiral Billard Academy, and Indiana University. An avid sports fan, he was passionate about and received great enjoyment from following the athletic achievements of his brothers, children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends from youth leagues to the Green Bay Packers.

Nothing made him happier than spending time with family. Throughout his life Frank had a special love and interest in people and was a loyal and true friend to all. He took great satisfaction in helping people through difficult times. Love, compassion, and charity were his trademarks and he always put others before himself. Frank was treasured and cherished by all who knew him and will be missed every single day.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to “The Francis M. Skoronski Memorial Fund” for his charitable interests.

Friends may greet his family on Wednesday from 4 – 8 pm in the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Road, Shelton. On Thursday friends are asked to go directly to Saint Joseph’s Church, 420 Coram Avenue in Shelton at 10:30 am for a mass of Christian burial. Burial will follow at Saint Michael’s Cemetery in Derby.
