The Spirit of the Holidays, at Home

There are so many reasons to shop local - support a neighbor's store, purchase handmade products unique to our community, not to mention save on gas by traveling locally!

Black Friday, Cyber Monday, what's next? These phrases have been coined to mark the beginning of a frenzied national season full of mall shopping and super-store visits.

Last year, Small Business Saturday was created to promote shopping at local small businesses. While it's encouraging to see one day devoted to local entrepreneurs, it's important to remember that small businesses are the life-blood of our economy and they are open for business year round. There are so many reasons to shop local - support a neighbor's store, purchase handmade products unique to our community, not to mention save on gas by traveling locally!

You can even make a day of it by visiting the local coffee store, shopping in one of our plazas and dining at a locally owned eatery. As a small business owner myself, I encourage you to head out to our community's small businesses, this season and every season.

And while you're purchasing gifts for your loved ones, remember those who are not as fortunate this holiday. Whether you purchase an extra gift for a toy drive or donate to your preferred charity or church group your thoughtfulness will make a difference in the life of a child who is waiting for Santa Claus to arrive at home.
