Volunteer Opportunities Abound in Fairfield County

VolunteerSquare.com is the website to check out if you want to help those in need.

The blog by Rachel Reese initially posted in late December and currently back on the front page of Trumbull Patch focused on a local version of the Occupy movement recently, which took place in Darien. What was ignored in her essay by everyone who responded to it was the last paragraph, which mentioned VolunteerSquare.com – a website which describes a variety of volunteer opportunites at agencies throughout Fairfield County for all ages and abilities.

A look at this website reveals the needs of many people in the area and the many ways in which individuals can help meet those needs. There are 15 categories of
agencies in the county - for children and youth and for senior citizens; for
housing and homelessness, family and parenting, military and veteran support,
substance abuse and recovery; for health, women’s issues, hunger relief,
disaster relief, animal care and protection, education and literacy, arts and
humanities, environmental protection and education. Each category, i.e. type of
service, has its own link, with the name, address, and phone number of each
agency in that category, and a description of the specific services offered and
specific volunteer opportunities available. Anyone with the time and desire to volunteer can find out how to do so on this website – www.VolunteerSquare.com

I agree with the organization’s statement that “It is critical for us to strengthen our
connections to one another and our communities, in a time when so many of us
are constantly logged on, plugged in, and booted up.” I also agree with Rachel
Reese’s conclusion that all of us would be better off if we worked together to
help those in need in every community.
