Bridgeport Theatre Company Presents LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS

Bridgeport Theatre Companylaunches its fourth season with the hit cult-classic musical LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS, running Sep 13-28.  All performances will take place at the Downtown Cabaret Theatre, 263 Golden Hill Street, Downtown Bridgeport. Bridgeport Theatre Company operates in residence at DCT, and will be presenting the Community Theatre Series for Downtown Cabaret Theatre. LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS is the first show in BTC’s 2013/14 season, also to include DREAMGIRLS, TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD, and SHREK, as well as New Works events, concerts, and fundraisers.

Based on the film by Roger Corman (screenplay by Charles Griffith), this affectionate spoof of 1950s sci-fi movies follows a down-and-out skid row floral assistant who becomes an overnight sensation when he discovers an exotic plant with a mysterious craving for fresh blood. Soon "Audrey II" grows into an ill-tempered, foul-mouthed, R&B-singing carnivore who offers him fame and fortune in exchange for feeding its growing appetite, finally revealing itself to be an alien creature poised for global domination! One of the longest-running Off-Broadway shows of all time, this cult classic has become a household name, thanks to a highly successful film version and a score by Alan Menken that is charming, tuneful and hilarious.

The cast of nine local performers includes Garth West (BTC’s Hairspray) as Seymour, Holly Martin (BTC’s The Wedding Singer) as Audrey, PJ Morello (BTC’s Lend Me a Tenor) as Mr. Mushnik, John Stegmaier (BTC’s Dracula and The Wedding Singer) as Orin Scrivello D.D.S. & others, Gina Lariccia (BTC’s Hairspray & Lend Me a Tenor) as the voice of Audrey II, Sean Sepulveda (BTC’s The Wedding Singer) as the Audrey II puppeteer, Alana Cauthen (BTC’s Hairspray) as Crystal, Heather Abrado (BTC’s RENT) as Chiffon, and Sarah Paige Morris makes her BTC debut as Ronette.

The production is Directed and Choreographed by Downtown Cabaret Theatre veteran performer, Lance Gray, with Musical Direction by Bridgeport Theatre Company Artistic Director Eli Newsom. Stephanie Gaumer serves as Associate Musical Director and will lead a live band of six musicians.

The regular performance run is as follows: Fridays @ 8pm: Sep 13 (opening), Sep 20, Sep 27; Saturdays at 5pm and 8:30pm: Sep 14, 21, and 28 (closing); Sunday Sep 22 at 5pm; Thursday Sep 26 @ 7:30pm.  There will be a preview performance on Thursday Sep 12 @ 8pm, where all tickets are just $18. Seating begins 45 minutes before showtime, and an attended parking lot is available across from the theater on Golden Hill St.

Tickets are $28 for adults, $23 for seniors, and $18 for students and children. Concessions will be available for purchase throughout each performance and patrons are encouraged to pack picnics (BYO everything format) for the full ‘Cabaret experience’. All ages are welcome!
