Tornado Watch in Effect Through 8 p.m.

The alert covers Fairfield Country and most of the Tri-State Region.

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for Shelton and the rest of Fairfield County through 8 p.m. Wednesday.

The service "continues to place the Tri-State area under a slight risk for severe thunderstorms."

"This threat is in response to a cold front expected to move through the region," the NWS reports.

The service's forecast states that afternoon showers and thunderstorms are likely for Shelton — mainly between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. — with a high of about 86°.

"Some storms could be severe, with damaging winds. ... Chance of precipitation is 60%," according to the service. "New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms."

The NWS also shows a slight chance of evening thunderstorms through 7 p.m., followed by gradual clearing.
