Severe Thunderstorm Watch Extended to 10 p.m. [Update]

The National Weather Service has issued a severe weather warning

The National Weather Service has extended its severe thunderstorm warning to include the entire state of Connecticut. The NWS said a severe storm was tracked at 2:30 in Redding and Easton, and is moving southeast at 20 mph. 

The NWS warning said "Lightning is one of nature's number one killers. Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Move to safe shelter immediately.

In addition, an urban and small stream flood advisory has been issued for Fairfield County areas in southern Connecticut until 5:30 p.m.

The national weather service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Fairfield County in Southern Connecticut, including Shelton, until 2:30 p.m.

The advisory states that this severe thunderstorm is “capable of producing quarter size hail and damaging winds in excess of 60 mph. The storm was located near Danbury and moving southeast at 25 mph” about 12:52 p.m. 

“This is a dangerous storm,” reads the warning. “If you are in its path, prepare immediately for damaging winds, destructive hail, and deadly cloud to ground lightning. People outside should move to a shelter, preferably inside a strong building but away from windows.”
