Smiley's Last Chance

He's been at the Wolcott Animal Shelter for almost a year, and he's about to be put down if an angel doesn't step up and adopt him.

Smiley got his name for his propensity to break into a grin, but lately he doesn't have much to smile about.

That's because Smiley's days are numbered. If he doesn't find a home soon -- like immediately -- he's going to be euthanized because he's been at the Wolcott Dog Pound for almost a year with no takers.

Smiley's got some special needs -- he doesn't get along with other dogs and some people. He needs to be an only dog and would do best with a female owner. He'll also need some professional training. But with the right help, he'll make a fine companion.

If you think you can save Smiley's life, contact the Wolcott Dog Pound as soon as possible at (203) 879-7620.

This breaks my heart. Last time I read about a dog's last chance and called the next day, it was too late already.

Why does a shelter euthanize a healthy pet? That is not what Shelters should do. This is a shame. Something needs to be done in cases like this. If he is happy there, keep him there UNTIL a home is found. How come now he has to be euthanized.

Cindy I agree! maybe if the good Patch readers keep FB liking this post and spreading the word, Smiley Will get scooped up before it's too late. I know municipal shelters are understaffed, but I have seen dogs find homes via Patch! It's the most gratifying part of my job. Smiley looks really NICE!

Update per the Wolcott Dog Pound Facebook page: Crepon Strays of Watertown agreed to take Smiley as a rescue but a foster home is still needed. https://www.facebook.com/WolcottDogPound?fref=ts
