Report: One Student Injured in California School Shooting

Multiple news outlets are reporting that a high school student shot another student with a shotgun this morning.

A high school student in California has been airlifted to a hospital after being shot by another student in a science classroom this morning, multiple news outlets are reporting.

According to Kero, a news affiliate of CNN, the unidentified Taft Union High School student shot another student shortly after 9 a.m. today, Jan. 10. The weapon, a shotgun, was recovered and the suspect is in custody, police told the California-based television station.

Today's incident comes less than a month after a 20-year-old man shot his way into Sandy Hook Elementary School and killed 20 students and six teachers before taking his own life. That Dec. 14 shooting has led to calls for greater school security in Newtown and across the state and nation, including Stratford.

Taft High School is located in San Joaquin Valley, about 120 miles northwest of Los Angeles, Kero reports. The school has two campus supervisors and a uniform deputy sheriff (the school resource officer) who monitor the campus
before, during and after school, according to a document available on the high school's website.

In the weeks following the shooting, Connecticut formed the Sandy Hook School Advisory Commission to evaluate existing laws and policies relating to gun contol, mental health and school safety, and recommend changes. And on a national level, President Barack Obama has appointed Vice President Joe Biden to head up the federal government's response to the Newtown tragedy.

Why is it the panel for this event does not include a single advocate for gun-owners' rights? WithRead More all due respect to Chief McNamara, why does the panel no include a person who can speak to gun safety from a gun-owning civilian's perspective? ML, you claim that the assembled folks "do not offer judgements about gun ownership" but they are not including a single voice that can offer perspective on gun ownership. I have been to "education" sessions sponsored by Meg's March for Change and they are one-sided indoctrinations into gun control advocacy. >>>> I was in Hartford for the public hearings in January when both Meg and March co-founder Nancy gave their personal testimonies and they all but threatened the legislators on the panel with election day retribution for all those who did not tow the gun-control line of thinking (i.e. March and CAGV). To suggest that Meg "does not offer judgements" is fallacious and disingenuous.
