Eat a City Sandwich at Liquid Lunch

Liquid lunch offers fresh food, a spacious atmosphere and exciting ingrediants.

Howe Avenue is hopping this summer with good eats. You will need to bring a big appetite and a slight knowledge of your cities to Liquid Lunch. Fred and Michele Bialek, owners of the eatery, give their food, atmosphere and menu a unique and refreshing flavor.

With ingredients like caramelized onions, roasted red bell peppers, grilled marinated Portobello, fresh pesto, yogurt sauce, candied almonds and sun dried tomato aioli in several of their menu items, taste buds are sure to melt.

Alexis Gulas, manager of Liquid Lunch, has experienced the delight of seeing satisfied customers for the past 6 ½ years.

“Fred went to the CIA in Hyde Park, New York and then he worked in several restaurants before opening Liquid Lunch,” Gulas explained. “He has a knack for making foods complement each other,” she said.

According to Gulas, with the hot summer weather taking over Shelton, customers are craving Liquid Lunch’s fresh gazpacho.

“The gazpacho is really good for the summer,” Gulas said. “We always sell out of it when we have it.”

Gulas’s favorite soup is the French Onion.

“We put applejack brandy in our French Onion soup,” she said. “That is what makes the difference between the French onion soup you make at home. My personal favorite when it comes to the sandwiches is the Portland. We make our fresh apple coleslaw and it comes with cheddar cheese and turkey.”

The sandwiches that Liquid Lunch offers are named after cities and tourist spots, making the choice fun for customers, especially out-of-towners.

“Martha’s Vinyard is everyone’s favorite,” Gulas said. “Requests vary from day to day, though. Today I made a lot of San Diegos.”

Customers looking for a lighter option can try one of Liquid Lunch’s nine salads.

“We make them fresh everyday as opposed to just having them in coolers,” Gulas said. “We make everything fresh; we grill our own chicken. We try to stay away from the fast food atmosphere. You get a healthier version of fast food. It’s fresher.”

Each day Liquid lunch offers four new soups on top of their regular menu items. They also have daily specials which people can check out on their Facebook site. Whether you are looking for a quick lunch or a sit-down meal, Liquid lunch can give you what you want in a spacious setting with friendly faces.
