Bank Planned For Huntington Hardware Site

Shelton's Planning & Zoning Commission has been reviewing a proposal that would put a People's Bank on the site of former Huntington Hardware.

At their most recent meeting on August 14, the Planning & Zoning Commission unanimously voted "yes" on an application for site plan approval of 500 Shelton Ave., the location of the former Huntington Hardware store that after more than 30 years of service.

Joe Periera of Periera Engineering, LLC has been in talks with PZC since June of this year to demolish the existing hardware store and build a new People’s Bank branch with a 24-hour ATM drive-thru. The building would be about 3,100 square feet with 18 parking spaces, including handicapped and employee-only spots.

As far as access, the existing site has two curb cuts: one with full access on Shelton Avenue, one on Old Shelton Road. They plan to reuse those existing curb cuts, except they will be changing them to “Exit Only” and “Right Turn Only.”
