HAIRSPRAY The Broadway Musical

Bridgeport Theatre Company kicks off their second season with “Hairspray, The Broadway Musical” which runs Oct 21 - Nov 6 with performances on Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm, and Sundays at 5pm. It is the first in a spectacular line up of main stage shows for their season. All performances will take place at Downtown Cabaret Theatre, 263 Golden Hill Street, Downtown Bridgeport. Bridgeport Theatre Company operates “in residence”at DCT, and each company operates independently of the other whilst sharing the same space.

“Hairspray, The Broadway Musical” won eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical. The production ran for more than six years and 2,642 performances. The musical is based on the John Waters film of the same name, which provides the foundation for the show. With a cleverly constructed and entertaining book, the show has solid laughs and heart to spare. The story takes place in 1962 Baltimore and focuses on Tracy Turnblad, a big girl with an even bigger dream to dance on the Corny Collins Show. "Hairspray" is full of energy, joy, and an award-winning doo-wop score that will make anyone wish they could go back in time! With bubble gum pop, crooner love songs, and gospel ballads, the music alone is worth the price of admission!

“Hairspray, The Broadway Musical” is presented with direction by Christy McIntosh, musical direction by Stephanie Gaumer, and choreography by Julia Maggiola. The cast of over 30 actors from in and around Fairfield county and beyond includes: Bill Adams, Steve Benko, Jessica Braun, Duane Campbell, Josh Cardozo, Nicole Carrano, Alana Cauthen, Dante DiFederico, Evelynne Fulda, Sophia Gall, Molly Gaumer, Gregory Gardner, Linda Gilmore, Daniel Giraldo, Khallid Graham, Karen Hanley, Cierra Jordan, Bridget Krompinger, Emma LaPlace, Gina Lariccia, Ryan Little, Charlotte Masi, Margaret Meghie, Ricky Mestre, Kayla Muldoon, Jim Nassef, Eli Newsom, Jason Parry, Shantal Rhodes, Olivia Rivera, Heli Vaher, Kristy Trujillo, Garth West, Abby Cadabby, and Fozzie Bear.
