The Park City Players Present: Great American Love Songs

Description: All you need is Love! ...And The Park City Players will take care of the rest. A cast of sixteen performers will shower the audience with six decades of love songs in their Annual Cabaret at The Bijou Theatre. This labor of love includes selections from The Beatles, Michael Buble, Carrie Underwood, Frankie Valle, Whitney Houston, & Frank Sinatra.

Ridgefield: A Concert for Hope and Healing

Where: Ridgefield Playhouse, 80 East Ridge Road, Ridgefield

When: Saturday, Jan. 19, and Sunday, Jan. 20, at 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Cost: Range from $45 to $400

Description: Performers on Saturday include Edie Brickell, Bernie Williams, Kicking Daisies, Carly and Eliza, Bobby Paltauf and the Steve Clarke Trio, and on Sunday, Johnny Winter and his band, Ed Kowalczyk from the band Live, Gary Portnoy, Whiskey Preacher, Chris Berardo and the Desperados, Wagon Wheel Band and more. One hundred percent of the proceeds of these concerts will go towards a memorial park to honor the memory of the victims as well as ongoing psychological trauma help for the survivors.

Stamford MLK Day of Service 2013

Description: On Saturday, the weekend leading up to Martin Luther King Day, January 19, 2013, Service For Peace (SFP) will lead hundreds of local volunteers as part of a nationwide initiative designed to celebrate Dr. King’s legacy of public service.

 

Fairfield: Sacred Heart University Performing Arts Benefit

Cost: Donations requested.

Description: The "Performing for the Angels of Sandy Hook" is a benefit show. Donations will go to the Sandy Hook Elementary School Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Bethel: Family Game Night

Where: First Congregational Church of Bethel

Cost: Free

Description: Join the church for its first Family Game Night. You will need a team of 2-6 to compete. Challenges will include building towers, trivia, a relay race and other obstacles to challenge the mind.

Woodbridge: Casey Gorman and Tim Palmieri

Description: The beautiful acoustic stylings of singer/guitarist Casey Gorman from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., then Tim Palmieri rocks the house from 10 p.m. until 1 a.m.

North Haven: Animal Shelter Adoption Event

Description: This pet adoption event is sponsored by the Friends of the New Haven Animal Shelter and the North Shore Animal League.

Weston: "Weston Yesterday" Exhibit

Where: Weston Historical Society, 104 Weston Rd, Weston, CT

Description: Have you ever been curious about Weston's past?  It's fascinating, and you'll have an opportunity to take a look back in time at Weston's colorful history this weekend, and throughout the month of January at the Historical Society.

 

Springfield: Robby Klimaytis Benefit Dinner with Auction/Raffle

Where:419 Island Pond Rd, Springfield, MA

When: 5 to 10 p.m. Jan. 19

Cost: $25

Description: Robby is a 4-year-old boy who was in an accident in Redding, when a tree pinned him for 20-30 minutes, causing an anoxic brain injury. This event features a catered buffet dinner with a cash bar, a magician to entertain children in attendance, live music and more.

Description:  The songwriters' gathering will be followed by time for a brown bag lunch. Participants are encouraged to share work or work-in-progress, listen, and meet writing partners.

Shelton: Needle & Thread Stitchery Club

Where: Plumb Memorial Library, 65 Wooster St.

When: Saturday, Jan. 19, 2 p.m.

Description: Learn cross stitch embroidery. Calling all kids ages 5 and up (parent must determine skill and ability), join Ms. Kathi to learn basic needle and thread skills; the library will provide the materials.

Shelton: Open House - 49 Longfellow Road

Hurricane Sandy Debris Clean-Up in Milford

Where: Silver Sands State Park

When: Monday, January 21, 2013. 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Cost: Free

Description: The Great Creek Marsh at Silver Sands is a vital wildlife habitat area that is need of some hearty volunteers this next Monday, January 21st from 10 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.  Gas cans, fencing, back yard sheds, building debris and plastic have littered the marsh area.
