One Shelton truck driver doesn't have to ask "How's My Driving?"
He already knows it's pretty good.

Ernest Budlowski is headed to this year's national competition of truck drivers after winning first place in the three-axle division of the Connecticut contest, according to the Shelton Herald.

Budlowski is no stranger to the competitions. CT Post reported he's won six times in different categories in the Connecticut Truck Driving Championships, and he's been ranked anywhere from third to 30th place in past National Truck Driving Championships.

The national contest will take place from Aug. 12-16 in Pittsburgh, and the American Trucking Association called it the "Super Bowl of Safety."

Competitors have to be accident-free for at least a year before the competition, giving drivers incentive to follow safe practices during the daily grind.

Truck drivers are tested on their knowledge and skill in a written exam, a driving course and a truck inspection test, according to ATA.

More than 415 drivers will compete in the 2014 national contest, with winners in eight categories in state championships coming from 50 states. Winners of regional championships will also compete.

Budlowski told CT Post he has his eye on the first place prize of a new pick-up truck, but even more important is the chance to be named the safest truck driver in the country and sweep the bragging rights that come with the title.
