Shelton Gets Social About Block the Box

If you stop in one of the intersection boxes in Shelton, you could have to pay a pretty hefty fine. Readers sounded off on that this week.

"Have you seen the boxes in Downtown Shelton? Stopping in them will cost you $117."

We sent that sentence out via the Shelton Patch Facebook page, with a link to the article, titled "Shelton Police: Don't Block the Box."

Here were the responses we got from our readers:

Brian Johnson: If they would just fix the timing of the traffic lights, then they would not have to paint such lines. It is amazing this issue has been swept under the rug for so long.

Ray Gaylord: So many of the lights in Shelton are messed up. Take for instance Bridgeport Ave and Armstrong. The light changes all day and all night so Armstrong can turn green with nobody there. 1:00 am in the morning 1 car on the road and it has to stop to let an invisible person go. This happens every 20 seconds. Waste of time and waste of gas!!

David Broder: The problem as so many have said is the timing of the lights at Center and Bridge street especially. They should be green and red simultaneously to allow traffic to go through [uninterrupted]. It stupid that while the light at center is green the light at Bridge is red. it would probably have been less expensive to change the timing of the lights then paint the stripes. I think its a problem that town hall knows about but is using as a cynical attempt to get more revenue.

Erin Candler: I am going to completely avoid downtown. If Shelton can't find a way to better address the traffic issues than to ticket (tax) the loyal residents, than I will take all of my business elsewhere. Very disappointed in my town.
