Shelton Dog, Bubba, a National Competitor

Every dog gets his day. For one Shelton pet, that day is coming.

Trap Falls President and Shelton resident, Laura Wells and her Champion Rottweiler, "Bubba," will be among the top contenders, competing in the AKC Owner Handler Series Finals on Dec. 14-15.

"On December 14-15, the best of the best in the sport of purebred dogs will compete in the prestigious AKC/Eukanuba National Championship in Orlando," according to a press release. "This event showcases purebred dogs exhibited by owner/handlers who compete against their peers. Wells and Bubba are currently ranked #3 in the country."

Another Trap Falls "notable and hero" who will be honored at Eukanuba is a Spinone Italiano, “Drago”, owned by Club members Chris Sweetwood and Lauren Friedman of Milford CT. Drago will be receiving the annual AKC Humane Fund Award for Canine Excellence (ACE) in Therapy.

"Met with unimaginable challenges, Drago made more than 1,000 therapy visits in the aftermath of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. Friedman and Drago spent every day for several weeks at the Crisis Center that was set up at Reed Intermediate School in Newtown, providing love and support to those who needed it," according to the Kennel Club.

ACE recipients will receive $1,000 to be awarded to a pet- related charity of their choice and an engraved sterling silver medallion presented on December 14, 2013, in Orlando.

Trap Falls Kennel Club is a non-profit AKC all-breed dog club based in Fairfield County. Known for their community programs and involvement, the club recently received recognition from Senator Chris Murphy for spearheading fundraising efforts for the new K-9 officer in Newtown, CT.
