Public Generally Opposes Apartments on Wells Hollow Farm

But some of the Wells family are ready to sell.

Neighbors of long-running Wells Hollow Farm, who live on Long Hill Avenue, say traffic will worsen on their street if an 140-unit apartment complex arises on the farmland.

Donald Sosenko noted, "The removal of 100-year-old trees, stone walls and property will never be recovered."

He added that the land has been in the same family for many years.

Regis Dognin said building the complex, which includes assisted living units, will increase the number of EMS calls and noise and traffic on the road.

But supporters of the proposal say the development would be economically healthy for town because efforts to sell the land for office space have not worked.

Wells Hollow Farm is the last farm on Bridgeport Avenue, said Zoning Administrator Rick Schultz. They still sell ice cream there and produce there.

The Planning and Zoning Commission meets June 11 to discuss the proposal.
