Hit the Library This Vacation Week in Shelton

Beat the Christmas Vacation boredom with the Plumb Memorial Library.

Here are their events for Christmas and New Year's weeks, courtesy of the Library:

Stay & Play — Fridays, Dec. 27 and Jan. 3, 10:30 a.m. Open play dates for preschoolers and caregivers; chat over coffee or tea, juice provided, bring a snack and a friend.

Budding Bookworms — Mondays, Dec. 30 and Jan. 6, 10:30 a.m. A themed drop in story and craft time for kids 1-5 years old and their caregivers — Freezer Dance and Do Re Mi.

Gingerbread Man Hide and Seek — Drop-in to Plumb through Dec. 31 and search for the hiding gingerbread man. When children 1-13 years find him and tell one of the children’s librarians while checking out a book, they win a prize (one prize per child per week). The Gingerbread Man moves each week.

Teens Booked for Lunch — Saturday, Dec. 28, 12:30 p.m. Teens 13-19 drop in for a book discussion over lunch. No registration; pick up a copy in the teen room at the library.

Teen Boost — Saturday, Dec. 28, 1:45 p.m. Teens 13-19 drop in for cooking, crafts and more.

Teen Movie Critics — Saturday, Dec. 28, 3 p.m. Teens 13-19 drop in to watch and critique movies from all ages and genres; a light dinner aids discussion.

Mother Daughter Book Club — Thursday, Jan. 16, 6 p.m. Girls in grades 4-6 and their most important woman (aunts, grandmas and moms) are featured in this new book club. No registration is necessary and multiple copies of the selected book are now available for pre-session reading; refreshments and door prizes each month.

1,000 Books Before K — Information and supplies all provided at sign-up. To encourage families to read together, with the help of the Shelton School Readiness Council and Friends of the Shelton Libraries the Plumb Library is offering support for tracking all 1,000 books plus rewards and prizes along the way. Funding from the Valley Community Foundation and the Valley United Way supports this new adventure.

Both libraries close at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 31, and reopen for regular hours Thursday, Jan. 2.
