'Grow A Scholar' Auction This Sunday

Shelton-Derby Rotary Club hosts a "Fun and Games" themed annual auction to support scholarship awards this Sunday.

Founded in 1927, The Shelton-Derby Rotary Club is gearing up this week for its much-anticipated annual auction to be held this Sunday, April 29 at . Every year the Rotary Club awards over $14,000 in scholarships to Shelton and Derby students who wish to attend college but have difficulty finding the means to do so.

This years 33rd annual event, newly dubbed "Grow A Scholar," will sport a "fun and games" themed afternoon to support its silent and live auctions. Typically the event is run by the new president-elect of the Rotary and 2012-2013's Mary Ellen Samatulski said: "I invite and encourage the community to come out to the auction and enjoy the fellowship and good food that this event brings. This years auction items include get-away packages, golf outings, original artwork and jewelers, restaurant gift certificates, a luncheon in Washington D.C. with Jim Himes and much much more!"

Last year's auction raised nearly $14,000 and this year's goal will be upward of $14,500.

"The Rotary is still accepting donations this week of valuable items and services to auction and raise money for this great cause," said Samatulski.
