Typical IDIOT pit owner, no tags on the dog! She should stay outside until she finds the dog, and she shouldn't turn the heat on in the car till the dog is found either.
If you own a pit, your job1 is to never, ever, under any circumstances, permit your pit to become a loose or stray pit. Because pits are a powerful, tenacious terrier who needs a firm/confident leader/owner to guide them, that means your dog of choice can never be loose without that leader/owner there to guide her behavior!

Actually I had Oreo at my house last night and she is one of the friendliest dogs ever. She drove around with me yesterday in my truck and hung out with my dog and family until her owner came today. Pits get a bad reputation but I can tell you this a bad owner makes a bad pit this dog listened and was great glad she found her way home.

I am so happy to hear Oreo has been reunited with Amanda. Oreo is a very friendly girl. She came over to visit my family and our two dogs. She even kissed my 4 year old son. Despite her being lost, and that was exactly what she was LOST, she greeted all with love and affection. Thank you J.J. For keeping her warm and safe.

Microchip & tagging is an important lesson here! My 6 month old rednose will get her spay done Feb 22 (wait is bc an organization is paying for her since we inherited her from our college daughter who didn't really plan past cute puppy stage!) She will then have FOUR tags on her collar: name tag, rabies tag, county permanent license tag, & microchip tag. Im doing EVERYTHING by the book with her bc of her breed despite fact that she's submissive & sweet. Our fence has holes so we walk her with a leash. Did this owner not bring her dogs in during the storm??

Idiot? ...Oreo lives on a 12 acre farm and has never run away before. Amanda, her owner, just bought her a brand new collar and hadn't put her tags on it yet. While she was at school, her family member let Oreo out, not Amanda. Amanda and myself know all about the breed and what they are capable of. Oreo doesn't need firm, confident guidance to behave. She does that all on her own BECAUSE SHE's A PIT...... Also, she DID stay outside ALL night long looking for her dog when she got home and was told 8 hours later that she was missing. She hiked through the woods calling her for hours and hours late into the night crying. I don't know why you feel the need to call someone names here when you have no clue who you are talking about. Quit the negative talk thank you. From one pit lover to another.

you're right Sara, Why do people jump to conclusions and call anyone an idiot. I had contractors at my house who promised to close the gate and doors. They got drunk on the job, played fetch with my dog in the yard and then left the gate open. I drive home from supermarket to see my dog heading for the highway. Stuff happens. I'm just really happy this dog was found, safe and sound. Can't we just be nicer in the comment stream?

Wow! I was forwarded to this post and I am appalled to see the negative comment about my dog and I!!
Thank you to those who know the truth about the breed! I took a dog and turned her into a dog worth owning in less than 4 months. Before you judge try learning the facts!! Yes my dog is a pit bull. Who came from an abusive situation and knew nothing but how to breed and raise puppies! Why did my dog not have tags on, simple she was wearing a new collar I had just purchased for her. I have raised and trained many dogs and a variety of different animals,what have you done to sit there and judge me? What's your experience in training to have all this "knowledge" about pit bulls and how they should be handled and cared for? So to answer the next issue how did my dog get loose. I was not home and my mother let her out with HER dog who is notorious for taking off. My dog followed and got lost. Normally my dog won't even step off the porch without me going with her. My dog travels with me and works with me 24/7. I left her home for 1 night and this happened. Do you not think I wasn't devastated!!? So next time you go to judge someone your better off not! You don't know the situation and you don't know the dog or owner so keep your negative comments to yourself, your making yourself look like the IDIOT here!

You sound like a great dog owner and very responsible. We have a lot of pit bull fans and rescue groups sharing on Patch!
