1,000 Books Before Kindergarten

How many books can you read to your child before he or she enters kindergarten?

How about 1,000?

Kick-off and registration for the Plumb Memorial Library's "1,000 Books Before Kindergarten" program will run from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the library, 65 Wooster St.

Participants will receive educational prizes as they reach certain goals in the process.

"Build a binder of information and reading logs to serve as a great memento of your child's early literacy experiences," according to the library.

The celebration will include information and activity stations for parents and children.

The program is sponsored by the library, Friends of the Shelton Libraries, the Shelton School Readiness Council and the Valley Community Foundation's Community Grants program.
