Garden Smarts: A Program for Sustainable Home Gardeners

The Town of Monroe Parks & Recreation will be offering a 3-part class for homeowners and gardeners who want to work with nature to achieve outstanding results in the garden.  This course will teach how to harness nature’s power and develop healthy, beautiful landscapes and gardens while saving money too!

The course will be taught by Renee Marsh, a University of Connecticut certified master gardener who designs, installs, and maintains the gardens for Monroe’s town parks and buildings.  Her course is based on the priciples of “Sustainable Sites Initiatives” which shows you how to work with nature to create a great–looking garden that's healthier for you, your family, your pets, and the environment.  Participants will explore the role that healthy soil plays in successful gardening, how to choose plants suited to your garden and learn practices that benefit the environment and our native wildlife.

The course will be held Wednesdays April 9, 16 & 23 from 7:00 – 8:30 PM.  It will be held at the Monroe Senior Center at 235 Cutlers Farm Road, Monroe, CT.  Cost will be $40 for residents and $50 for non-residents.  To register go to www.MonroeRec.org and click on the activities tab.  Interested participants are encouraged to register early, as space is limited.
