On August 5, Daniel Fontes of Naugatuck bought a CT Lottery “20X the Cash 5th Edition” instant game ticket as a birthday present for himself. Fontes, who turned 31 years old that day, scratched the ticket and revealed three matching symbols with a prize value worth $20,000—one of the game’s top prizes.
“My first thought was, ‘I better sign the back of this ticket,’” Fontes told Lottery officials with a laugh. “It was all pretty unbelievable…winning $20,000 on my birthday!”
Fontes, an electrician, claimed his prize check for $13,666 (value after taxes) at CT Lottery headquarters in Rocky Hill. “I’ll be putting the money right in the bank,” Fontes said.
For selling the 20X The Cash 5th Edition top prize winning ticket, Stop One Mart, located at 282 S. Main Street in Naugatuck, will receive a $200 bonus check from the CT Lottery.
The overall chances of winning a prize in the $20 instant game 20X The Cash 5th Edition are 1 in 4.08. Of the 109 top prizes in the game, 63 remain to be claimed.
