Assisted Transition Senior Advocate Gives Presentation at Senior Center

ASSISTED TRANSITION SENIOR ADVOCATE Wendy Seiler of Newtown gave a presentation at the Brookdale Senior Living Center in Wilton on Thursday, January 24 on “Navigating the Elder Living Maze". As a senior advocate, Ms. Seiler advises families on senior care and senior living options in Connecticut. She helps families find assisted care and independent living facilities, continuing care providers, skilled nursing and home care, legal and financial resources, and additional services.


During her presentation, Ms. Seiler provided attendees with information on steps families need to take to transition an elderly relative into various types of living situations, the importance of family involvement, options available when an elderly relative requires hospitalization or continuing care. She outlined signs family members should look for to determine if and when care for an elderly family member is needed; how to communicate effectively with a person with dementia; the need for planning an elderly family members’ transition into an independent, senior living or assisted living community; required documents throughout the transition process; obstacles to getting care; plus an overview of legal, financial and social resources available to help with the transition.


“The objective,” explained Ms. Seiler, “is to help people understand living options including home care, assisted living, moving in with relatives, and other choices, plus the pros and cons of each, so that seniors and their families can make decisions based on clear, objective information.”
