Police Make Second Arrest in Funny Money Scam

The following arrest information was provided in a press release by Detective Sergeant Kevin Ahern of the Shelton Police Dept. It does not indicate convictions.

Update, May 25:

On May 24, patrol officers served an arrest warrant on 48-year-old Gary S. Ouellet of 52 Shinnacock Trail in Shelton. This arrest is a follow up to the incident Detective Richard Bango was investigating where two $20 counterfeit bills were passed on May 5, 2012 at located at 819 River Rd. in Shelton.

Ouellet was charged with first degree forgery and sixth degree larceny. Ouellet was released on a court set bond of $5,000 with a court date of June 7, 2012 at Derby Superior Court.

On May 15, 2012 Shelton Police Detectives had arrested 22-year-old Kyle S. Ouellet of the same address. At the time Shelton Police Detectives had seized approximately $7,000 in counterfeit money.

Shelton Police do not expect to make any more arrests.

Original Story, May 15:

On May 15, detectives along with agents from the New Haven office of the United States Secret Service executed a search and seizure warrant at 52 Shinnacock Trail in Shelton. Detective Richard Bango was investigating a case of $20 counterfeit bills being passed at a local business in Shelton.

Approximately $7,000, in different stages of print, was seized in the search along with other items pertinent to the investigation, police said.

Arrested was 22-year-old Kyle S. Ouellet of the same address.

Ouellet was charged with first degree forgery and is currently being held on a $15,000 bond. He is scheduled to be arraigned at Derby Superior Court on May 16.
